GoIT Student Technology Camp

The Need for IT

The careers and jobs of tomorrow will increasingly rely on science, technology, engineering, and math skills (STEM). Technology-related job openings are projected to exceed 1 million by 2024. In fact, these openings far outpace the number of students earning bachelor’s degrees in computer science and similar concentrations. Of the total bachelor’s degrees awarded annually to U.S. citizens, only 17 percent were in STEM fields. Additionally, roughly one quarter of U.S. high school graduates meet the ACT™ benchmark score in STEM.

In response to this urgent issue and STEM skills opportunity gap, TCS created goIT in 2009. The goal of this flagship STEM education program is to demystify computer science and help students obtain the skills and confidence required to pursue STEM degrees—i.e. to become tomorrow’s technology leaders.

The goIT program at TCS Seven Hills Park in Milford, OH is an experiential, immersive technology program where middle and high school students receive hands-on technology education and IT career awareness. This year’s camp will allow students to work with innovative technologies to create applications and build programmable robots. Using these tools, students will gain exposure to the global IT environment, learn security best practices, and collaborate in teams to solve critical thinking challenges in a fast-paced and informative setting.

Participation is free to all students, with materials and food provided by TCS at no cost to the student.
